Celebrity Grand Marshal for 2003
H.R.H. "Lucy" Amber Mist Holtzman, Mardi Paws Queen 2003
"Lucy" is a 5 yr. old beauty who is the daughter of Catherine Holtzman, Sr. Pet Trainer at PETsMART in Covington. Lucy isn't all fluff (although she is a Bouvier des Flanders) - she also serves as the "unofficial" store greeter, and Demo Dog for obedience classes. Lucy originally hails from Conroe, Texas where she was born and christened Amber Mist Morganna. She is truly a blue-blooded pooch, with many American & European champions in her family tree. At a little over one year of age, she moved to Abita Springs, La., & the rest as they say, is history. Her Highness has her AKC CGC title (Canine Good Citizenship) and also passed her TDI (Therapy Dog International) test. Working 5 days a week doesn't leave her a lot of spare time, but she loves what she does, loves all the attention she receives from young and old alike.
H.R.H. "Sigmund" Freud Goux, Mardi Paws King 2003
King "Sigmund" Freud Goux was born July 19th, 1998. His sire was Simon's Big Cosmo and his dam was Simon's Frickles Fergie. This English Bull Dog, white with tan markings, is accustomed to the royal treatment, and frequently appears in his mom Catherine's publication, Northlake News.
In an unprecedented gesture by the krewe due to His Highness' fragile condition the King will remain stationary during the parade at the reviewing stand at Lafitte street waiting for his queen to arrive.
H.R.H. Sigmund Goux will mask as the lawyer Billy Flinn from the movie Chicago with his motto being, "All I care about is love."
Grand Duke "Dudley" Pella is a costume winner from Mardi Paws 2002 and an alumnus of the Boxer Rescue of New Orleans. Three-year old Dudley is a locally recognized piscatologist, an accomplished swimmer, and an exuberant participant in frequent games of chase-the-ball. "No danger of this boxer biting off your ear," says his mother, Stephanie. Dudley is an all around "bone ami."
Page to His Majesty, Sir Cedric "Sinclair" - the cat - Filson
Trying to be as diverse as possible, the officers this year voted in a feline for the first time ever to the krewe! Sinclair is a local feline celebrity with his own radio show and magazine column, and his mom, Lea Filson does an excellent job supporting all kinds of causes for furry friends. Sinclair even has his own website, www.SinclairandLea.com.
Duke "Boudreaux" Mauterer, Ch. Ivywood Ainsley the Big Easy, is a 3-yr. Old English cocker spaniel who has finished his championship at the prestigious Bucks County Shows in New Jersey. This local boy made good prefers the color red, only eats Red Barn fresh dog food, and is joined in the court this year by his sister, Maid Winnie Mauterer.
Lady-in-waiting "Rosy" Stroup, who never met a biscuit she didn't like, is a 2-year-old black Lab mix. She adopted the Stroups in August 2001, and they had high hopes of her jumping up the ladder from last year's scepter bearer to Queen this year. But, as the officers of the krewe explained to her mom Sheila, this plus-size beauty needed just a tad more grooming for the coveted title. Rosy loves children, mud, foraging and sleeping on the couch. Her brothers include past Mardi Paws Monarchs, H.R.H "Harry", 2002 and H.R.H. "Sunny", 1997.
Maid "Winnie" Mauterer's full name is Ch. Ainsley's Blue By You. She is an English cocker spaniel who will be 8 in May. Originally from Pennsylvania, she enjoys traveling to dog shows all over the country. Her main hobby is agility and purple is her favorite color. She lives with five brothers and sisters and has veterinarians as parents.
Scepter Bearer to Her Majesty, Princess Jasmine "Jazzy" Ann Bohm, is a 2 year-old Jack Russell terrier hailing from Canton,GA . Jazzy has just entered the terrible two's on January 22nd (which lasts a decade in this breed) and her favorite pastime is chewing all the hair off her sister's tail.Jazzy lives with another dog, three cats, two sisters, Emily and Hilary, and has veterinarians as parents.
One of the original krewe members, Parade Marshal, "Lil Dixie" Darlin' Dobson has the responsibility of riding first in the parade (escorted by her parents Glenda & Bill Dobson, of course!) Since she is the only krewe member with her own personalized golf cart equipped with sirens, Dixie continues to keep her coveted parade position in 2003.
No stranger to the Hollywood scene, "Snooks" Boettner, Parade Grand Marshal, has kept her coveted position this year after filling in for "Gizmo" Price in 2002. Snooks' mom, Mandeville Councilwoman Adelaide, made sure of this by securing a red Cadillac golf cart for the 5-year old shih tzu to throw from.
